On-Site General RAMS

A legal disclaimer

1. Purpose

​

This RAMS sets out the safe working procedures followed by Laserprintsuk.co.uk Ltd engineers when attending customer sites to inspect, service, repair or commission equipment.

 

2. Main Hazards

Electrical equipment

Isolate power before work. Never work on live equipment unless authorised.

Wear nitrile gloves and safety glasses. Follow COSHH guidance.

3. Required PPE

​

• Safety footwear
• Safety glasses
• Nitrile gloves when handling inks or chemicals
• Suitable work clothing
• Additional PPE as required by the customer site

 

4. Method Statement

​

  1. Sign in and complete any required site induction.

  2. Discuss the reported fault with the customer.

  3. Inspect the work area and carry out a dynamic risk assessment.

  4. Isolate the machine before removing covers or carrying out maintenance.

  5. Complete servicing or repairs using suitable tools and safe working practices.

  6. Clean any ink or chemical spills immediately.

  7. Refit all guards and covers before restoring power.

  8. Carry out functional testing to confirm safe operation.

  9. Remove all tools and waste materials.

  10. Explain work completed and obtain customer sign-off.

 

5. Emergency Procedures

​

In the event of an accident, chemical exposure, electric shock or fire, stop work immediately, make the area safe where possible, notify the customer representative and follow the site's emergency procedures.

7. COSHH Assessment – UV Curable Inks

​

Substance: UV Curable CMYK, White and Varnish Inks
Use: Printing, servicing, maintenance and priming of UV printers.

 

Hazard

Control Measures

Skin contact

Wear nitrile gloves. Avoid prolonged contact. Wash hands after handling.

​

Eye contact

Wear safety glasses. If contact occurs, rinse eyes with clean water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical advice if irritation persists.

​

Inhalation

Use in a well-ventilated area. Avoid breathing vapours or mist generated during cleaning operations.

​

Ingestion

Do not eat, drink or smoke while handling inks. Seek immediate medical advice if swallowed.

​

Spillages

Contain spill with absorbent material. Prevent entry into drains or watercourses. Dispose of waste as hazardous waste in accordance with local regulations.

​

Storage

Store in original sealed containers away from direct sunlight, heat sources and ignition sources, following the manufacturer's recommendations.

​

Waste disposal

Dispose of waste ink, contaminated wipes and absorbents via an authorised waste contractor. Do not pour ink into drains.

​

PPE

Minimum PPE: nitrile gloves, safety glasses and protective work clothing.

 

First Aid

​

• Skin: Wash thoroughly with soap and water.
• Eyes: Flush with clean water for at least 15 minutes.
• Inhalation: Move to fresh air if affected.
• Ingestion: Rinse mouth. Do not induce vomiting unless advised by a medical professional. Seek medical attention.

​

Engineering Responsibilities

​

Engineers should read and follow the relevant Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for the specific UV ink in use, wear the required PPE, clean up spills immediately, and report any exposure or spill incident to the customer representative.

​

8. Tools & Equipment

​

Laserprintsuk.co.uk Ltd engineers shall only use tools and equipment that are suitable for the task, maintained in good condition and used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

  • Adjustable Spanner

  • Precision tweezers

  • Trim removal tools

  • Craft knife / scraper (used with care)

Electrical & Test Equipment

​

  • Digital multimeter (where applicable, calibrated if required)

  • Non-contact voltage tester

  • ESD wrist strap and grounding lead

  • Torch / inspection light

​

Cleaning & Servicing Equipment

​

  • Lint-free wipes

  • Approved UV printer cleaning solution

  • IPA (where manufacturer approved)

  • Syringes and flushing adaptors

  • Waste ink container

  • Absorbent spill materials

​

General Requirements

​

• Inspect tools before use and remove damaged tools from service.
• Keep tools organised to prevent trip hazards and foreign object damage.
• PAT-tested electrical equipment shall be used where applicable.
• Calibrated measuring equipment shall be used where accuracy is required.
• All tools and materials shall be accounted for before leaving site.
